A QR code (Quick Response code) is a two-dimensional barcode that stores data as a grid of black and white squares. It was invented by Denso Wave in 1994 and is now an open ISO standard.
The code includes built-in error correction so it can still be scanned when part of the image is damaged or obscured. This tool uses level M, which tolerates up to 15% damage.
Level M error correction lets the code survive up to 15% damage and still scan correctly, so a small logo overlay or a smudge will not break it.
Common uses
- Printing a Wi-Fi password, a product manual link, or an event check-in URL as a scannable code.
- Sharing a long URL or a complex string without asking the other person to type it by hand.
Frequently asked questions
- What can a QR code store?
- Any text: URLs, Wi-Fi credentials, contact cards (vCard), plain messages. This tool encodes whatever text you enter as-is.
- Is my data sent anywhere?
- No. The QR code is generated locally in your browser using a small JavaScript library. Nothing you type leaves this page.
- Why is my QR code blurry when printed?
- Always download the PNG rather than screenshotting. PNG is lossless and scales cleanly; a screenshot introduces compression artifacts that can break scanning.
- What size should I print?
- At least 2×2 cm for close-range scanning. Larger is safer for posters or screens where the camera is far away.
